In defence of following the conventional path(the road more travelled)

1. Rebels against the system

Myth :- Following the conventional path doesn’t give satisfaction in life

Reality:- If you see Bollywood movies, it makes us believe that conventional is bad. Working 9–5 in the office is hell and only people who did something out of pattern are happy in their life. If you also believe this, let me tell you the desires what you say are your passion, once you start to do it full time you will realize that you really don’t like it that much.

For example:- If you love photography and think the only way to be happy in life by clicking pictures all around the globe, wait for a second. Because until you are really rich or really lucky, it is nearly impossible that you will be able to fund yourself for traveling around the world. Think about the cost of equipment, stay, and travel. And yes, forget about having a stable family. Instead, a better option would have been having a degree of MBA, doing consulting and traveling across the world on company cost. or maybe something else but surely not clicking the picture of the sunset in your hometown and wasting an opportunity of making something out of your time.

2. Following the passion

Myth :- Talent in India is wasted just because students don’t get support in their area of expertise

Reality:- The so-called talented students really don’t know what is right for them and what it takes to succeed in what they are saying they are good in. Bollywood is the biggest reason for this. We are told that we should do in which we are good at. But in my opinion, people should pursue in which they have a higher possibility of success.

For example:- If someone likes playing cricket but doesn’t play that good to make a career in it, they should stop focusing on Cricket and do something to reach a place in their career in which they can just play cricket for fun. A child who wasted their 16–23 in playing cricket and not making it wasted opportunity of getting a desk job career and then playing cricket for fun for their whole life on weekends. Had he chosen the second option he would have had a better opportunity to do what he enjoyed the most.

3. Only one passion

Myth : People have only one Passion

Reality:- Passion is just a feeling and feelings change. Passion should not be the only reason for pursuing something.

For example:- You must have heard the names of Bhuvan Bam(YouTube: BB ki Vines) or Zakir Khan or at least Kapil Sharma. These people are really successful in the Comedy area. But if you ask them their real passion was Singing( Kapil and Bhuvan) and poetry (Zakir Khan). But they were not able to make a name in that area. And most importantly people liked their other side. After they became famous they were able to do what they like. Bhuvan is realizing songs, people like Zakir Khan’s Shayari (poetry) and Kapil get an opportunity to perform some song in nearly all his episodes.

4. Following the crowd blindly (Bhed Chal)

Myth : Successful people take the road less traveled and don’t follow the crowd blindly

Reality:- It’s more about making the right decision at the right time. There is no point in thinking about the finals before the first match. Sometimes following the crowd when you don’t know what to do. Following the crowd ensure you have company.

For example:- In India, most people think of themselves as cricket experts. But all their analysis and expertise are of no use because it will not buy them food. BUT NOT FOT “HARSHA BHOGLE”. He is not a cricketer, still he Cricket expert, and gets paid for sharing his knowledge. FYI he is an MBA from IIM AHMEDABAD. Because of his stable base, he pursued his passion as he knew even he fails, he can always go back.

5. Intermediate Steps

Myth : Why study something which we will never use in our life.

Reality: Valid point but what’s the solution. Will you lead a nationwide moment for changing the system or will you wait until everything gets sorted. Reality is you can’t skip these Intermediate steps. For studying coding from the best colleges in India, you have to learn Chemistry even if you don’t like it. This is how things are right now. Either just sit and complain or study and crack the IAS exam. Become an education secretary and change this system. If this seems tough, just follow the system because there are not many options left.

I am not saying people should not follow their dream. But the problem, people don’t know what is at stake. The best decision is taken when you have better knowledge. Just tried to see the whole passion and career conflict from my point of view.
